{"id":239680,"date":"2023-04-26T19:55:06","date_gmt":"2023-04-26T14:25:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=239680"},"modified":"2023-04-27T18:10:01","modified_gmt":"2023-04-27T12:40:01","slug":"conservation-work-at-delhis-zafar-mahal-set-to-begin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/conservation-work-at-delhis-zafar-mahal-set-to-begin\/","title":{"rendered":"Conservation work at Delhi\u2019s Zafar Mahal set to begin"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><b>Source: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The post is based on the article <\/span><b>\u201cConservation work at Delhi\u2019s Zafar Mahal set to begin\u201d<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> published in <\/span><b>Hindustan Times <\/b>on <b>25th April 2023<\/b><\/p>\n<h2><b>What is the News?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) is set to initiate conservation works at Zafar Mahal in South Delhi\u2019s Mehrauli.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>What is Zafar Mahal?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Zafar Mahal is considered as the last monumental structure built as a summer palace during the fading years of the Mughal era.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Zafar Mahal then called Lal Mahal and Rang Mahal was originally<\/span><b> built by Akbar Shah II <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in 1820.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Later, the last Mughal emperor, <\/span><b>Bahadur Shah II <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(aka Bahadur Shah Zafar) built the <\/span><b>Hathi Gate <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and eventually gave it its present name, the Zafar Mahal.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2013 Hathi Gate got its name because of the fact that an elephant can pass through it with the &#8216;houdah&#8217; (seat, where people sit on an elephant) mounted over it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The emperor started the festival <\/span><b>Sair-e-Gul Faroshan<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Phoolwaalon ki sair) in Hazrat Bakhtiyar Kaki honor to celebrate his urs from this palace.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The complex contains the beautiful white marble Moti Masjid and several royal graves, including several emperors such as Shah Alam I and Shah Alam II.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is said that Emperor Bahadur Shah Zafar wanted to be buried here but since he was exiled to Burma, his last wish was never fulfilled.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Source: The post is based on the article \u201cConservation work at Delhi\u2019s Zafar Mahal set to begin\u201d published in Hindustan Times on 25th April 2023 What is the News?
