What are some facts about the third-generation web?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Some experts term the third-gen web as \u2018Web3\u2019<\/strong>, while others use the term \u2018Web 3.0\u2019.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Web3 is decentralised, privacy-oriented, blockchain-driven and crypto-asset friendly.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Web 3.0 upholds the property of the \u2018semantic web<\/strong>,\u2019 which is powered by AI. Semantic web has the ability to recombine information<\/strong> available on different websites to generate new content and knowledge resources<\/strong> that are more authentic and creative.<\/p>\n

Followers of Web 3.0 claim that their version has robust capability on the data analytics front.<\/strong> So, it will create far better search engines.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Web3 seeks to radically transform the manner in which data is generated, monetized, shared, and circulated<\/strong>. It advocates decentralized data storage systems.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Web3 has file-sharing systems such as the Interplanetary File System<\/strong> which are cryptographically protected<\/strong>. It is more secure and capable <\/strong>of functioning without the Internet and blockchains. In this manner, Web3 seeks to overcome the data storage barriers of blockchains.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Web3\u2019s boldest element is the strategic role assigned to non- custodial wallets<\/strong>. It functions as digital passports<\/strong> for users to access blockchain-enabled transaction platforms. <\/strong><\/p>\n

These wallets aid the creation of an ownership economy<\/strong>. Here, creators themselves control their content. Fundamentally, they work as digital proof of identity.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Web3 seeks to replace micro-economic organizations<\/strong> with decentralized autonomous organizations. <\/strong><\/p>\n

At a more macro level, it seeks to create a distributed economic system<\/strong>. Here, special classes of native digital tokens and cryptocurrencies would form the media of monetary circulation. <\/strong><\/p>\n

How can India benefit from the third-generation web?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Design-related innovations of India\u2019s handicraft industry are not protected by Intellectual Property rights<\/strong>. The digital tokens minted by Web 3 platforms would enable our handcraft enterprises to secure their innovations. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Web 3-based instruction tools enable the rapid dissemination of grassroots innovations<\/strong> from master artisans to fellow members. It would improve the economic fortunes<\/strong> of craftsmen and artisan communities in north-east, western and peninsular India.<\/p>\n

India\u2019s major digital public infrastructure push<\/strong> and the large-scale deployment of Internet of Things (IoT)<\/strong> in rural development projects offer major possibilities for deploying Web 3 in rural areas.<\/p>\n

There has been a rapid rise in community data<\/strong>. But this resource remains largely untapped due to a lack of data analytics capabilities at the community level<\/strong>. This limitation can be overcome by Web3 analytics systems. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Web 3.0 can also yield insights from large volumes of community data,<\/strong> generated by IoT-enabled development programmes<\/strong> such as the Jal Jeevan Mission.<\/p>\n

Web 3.0\u2019s natural advantage of facilitating \u2018analytics at the edge\u2019 <\/strong>provides considerable scope for mapping the water use habits of communities.<\/p>\n

Similarly, early warning systems for flood<\/strong>s will improve with Web 3.0 due to data analytics facilities<\/strong> being obtained at the sub-basin level. Thus Web 3.0 will have a transformative role<\/strong> in regionally disadvantaged areas.<\/p>\n
