The central government has issued a notification declaring the ancient temple of Tungnath as a monument of national importance.<\/span><\/p>\n

What is Tungnath Temple?<\/b><\/h2>\n

Located in:<\/b> Rudraprayag district, Uttarakhand<\/span><\/p>\n

It is the<\/span> only ancient ‘Shivalaya<\/b>‘ of its kind located at the highest point above sea level in Asia.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It is one of the <\/span>Panch Kedars <\/b>and is believed to have belonged to an ancient era almost 1000 years old.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It was built in the <\/span>North Indian style of architecture<\/b> and has a dozen shrines of other Gods surrounding the temple.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It is believed to have been discovered by <\/span>Adi Sankacharya.<\/b><\/p>\n

What are Panch Kedars?<\/b><\/h2>\n

Panch Kedar refers to a group of five sacred shrines of Lord Shiva located in the Garhwal Himalayas, Uttarakhand.<\/span><\/p>\n

They are the subject of many legends that directly link their creation to Pandavas, the heroes of the Hindu epic Mahabharata.<\/span><\/p>\n
