{"id":242096,"date":"2023-05-12T19:53:23","date_gmt":"2023-05-12T14:23:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=242096"},"modified":"2023-05-12T19:53:23","modified_gmt":"2023-05-12T14:23:23","slug":"ministry-of-power-ministry-of-environment-forests-climate-change-to-develop-carbon-credit-trading-scheme-for-decarbonisation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/ministry-of-power-ministry-of-environment-forests-climate-change-to-develop-carbon-credit-trading-scheme-for-decarbonisation\/","title":{"rendered":"Ministry of Power &#038; Ministry of Environment, Forests &#038; Climate Change to develop Carbon Credit Trading Scheme for Decarbonisation"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><b>Source: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The post is based on the articl<\/span>e<b> \u201c<\/b><b>Ministry of Power &amp; Ministry of Environment, Forests &amp; Climate Change to develop Carbon Credit Trading Scheme for Decarbonisation<\/b><b>\u201d <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">published in <\/span><b>PIB <\/b>on <b>12th May 202<\/b><\/p>\n<h2><b>What is the News?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Government of India is planning to <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">develop a Carbon Credit Trading Scheme for Decarbonisation.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>What are Carbon Markets?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Carbon markets are trading systems in which carbon credits are sold and bought.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Companies or individuals can use carbon markets to compensate for their greenhouse gas emissions by purchasing carbon credits from entities that remove or reduce greenhouse gas emissions<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are broadly two types of carbon markets: compliance and voluntary.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Compliance markets<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: They are created as a result of any national, regional and\/or international policy or regulatory requirement.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Voluntary carbon markets<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: It refers to the issuance, buying and selling of carbon credits, on a voluntary basis.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>What is the Carbon Credit Trading Scheme?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><b>Being developed by: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bureau of Energy Efficiency, Ministry of Power along with the Ministry of Environment, Forest &amp; Climate Change.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Aim: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To develop the Indian Carbon Market (ICM) with the objective to decarbonise the Indian economy by pricing the GreenHouse Gas (GHG) emissions through the trading of Carbon Credit Certificates.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Feature<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">s: The ICM will develop methodologies for the estimation of carbon emissions reductions and removals from various registered projects, and stipulate the required validation, registration, verification, and issuance processes to operationalize the scheme.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2013 Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) guidelines for the emissions scheme will also be developed after consultation.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2013 A comprehensive institutional and governance structure will be set up with specific roles of each party involved in the execution of ICM.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Significance<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: By accelerating the transition to a low carbon economy, the ICM will facilitate the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) goal of reducing the Emissions Intensity of the GDP by 45 percent by 2030 against 2005 levels.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Source: The post is based on the article \u201cMinistry of Power &amp; Ministry of Environment, Forests &amp; Climate Change to develop Carbon Credit Trading Scheme for Decarbonisation\u201d published in PIB on 12th May 202 What is the News?
