What are the factors that lead to the rise of dictatorship?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

History often repeats itself, especially when people forget that war or dictatorship or ethnic conflicts <\/strong>are not a solution to any issue.<\/p>\n

Humanity still has not learnt from the brutal regimes <\/strong>that brought violence and bloodshed. Lessons from history fade away and nations continue to repeat these mistakes.<\/p>\n

Revolutions, like those in France and Russia, gave an individual, absolute power. <\/strong>These emerged as failed empires under brutal dictatorships. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Widespread corruption, high crime rates, governmental incompetence<\/strong>, and the rule of law <\/strong>fail to awaken humanity. Such conditions give rise to \u201cstrong man\u201d politics.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Dictatorships are forgotten by the public. People blindly begin to put faith in a leadership that projects competence and ability<\/strong> to advance the welfare of the people and the country. <\/strong><\/p>\n

After Stalin\u2019s brutal regime, Cuban revolutionaries allowed their charismatic revolutionary leader <\/strong>to seize absolute power.<\/p>\n

There is abuse of modern communication technology<\/strong> by authoritarian regimes<\/strong> for propaganda<\/strong>. It gives birth to manipulative dictatorships<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In current times, technological means<\/strong> are used to subjugate public opinion<\/strong>. Hitler and Stalin are replaced by Russia\u2019s Putin, Peru\u2019s Fujimore, Venezuela\u2019s Chavez, Hungary\u2019s Orb\u00e1n and Turkey\u2019s Erdo\u011fan.<\/p>\n

How is democracy being subverted in current times?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

This is an era of strident nationalism and xenophobia<\/strong>. The hopes of a new world of progress, harmony and democracy<\/strong> have turned into despair.<\/p>\n

Over the last few decades, use of violence as a weapon for retaining power<\/strong> has reduced.<\/p>\n

Technology is used to manipulate and govern public opinion <\/strong>through deceit, lies, and deceptions under the guise of safeguarding the institution of democracy.<\/strong><\/p>\n

For reliability and acceptance<\/strong>, \u201cnon-democratic leaders\u201d <\/strong>allow a certain amount of dissent in the independent media. Complete censorship<\/strong> is replaced by indiscriminate regulations. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Elections are made to look fair and honest<\/strong>, through money, manipulation<\/strong> and the creation of a cult leadership. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Mass use of force and subjugation<\/strong> has gradually converted into majoritarian brute force.<\/strong> It is supported by a subservient media<\/strong> that tactfully spins a public discourse<\/strong> which seems to be democratic. But, in reality it is a far right wing agenda. <\/strong><\/p>\n

This is apparently different from North Korea\u2019s Kim Jong-Un, Syria\u2019s Bashar al-Assad, or Saudi Arabia\u2019s Mohammed bin Salman, who openly use subjugation, expurgation and physical punishment <\/strong>to remain in power.<\/p>\n

Right-wing intellectuals<\/strong> continually make efforts to strengthen the discourse of nationalism <\/strong>through the politics of image building and exceptionalism<\/strong>. It captures the attention of the masses.<\/p>\n

Criticism is pushed to the fringes while the dominant party discourse<\/strong> remains in full force. It is done through brain-washing the public<\/strong> with doublespeak and sophisticated means of surveillance and propaganda.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
