What is the News?<\/b><\/h2>\n

The Union <\/span>Minister of Communications has launched the Sanchar Saathi portal.<\/span><\/p>\n

What is <\/b>Sanchar Saathi Portal?<\/b><\/h2>\n

Sanchar Saathi portal is a citizen-centric initiative of the Department of Telecommunications to empower mobile subscribers, strengthen their security and increase awareness about citizen-centric initiatives of the Government.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The portal <\/b>allows citizens to:<\/b> 1)<\/strong> Check the connections registered on their names, 2)<\/strong> Report fraudulent or unrequired connections, 3)<\/strong> Block the mobile phones which are stolen\/lost and 4)<\/strong> Check IMEI genuineness before buying a mobile phone.<\/span><\/p>\n

Modules<\/b>: The portal <\/span>has the following modules:<\/span><\/p>\n

Centralized Equipment Identity Register(CEIR)<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n

Know Your Mobile: <\/b>It facilitates the citizens to check the genuineness of IMEI on their mobile devices.<\/span><\/p>\n

Telecom Analytics for Fraud Management and Consumer Protection (TAFCOP):<\/b> It facilitates a user to check the number of mobile connections taken in her\/his name using paper-based documents.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2013 User enters her mobile number on the portal and authenticates using OTP. The system shows the total connections taken in her name using paper-based documents (such as paper-based Aadhar, passport, etc.).<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2013 The system allows users to report fraudulent connections. It also allows users to block the connections which are not required.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2013 Once reported by the users, the system triggers a re-verification process, and the connections are terminated.<\/span><\/p>\n

ASTR (Artificial Intelligence and Facial Recognition powered Solution for Telecom SIM Subscriber Verification): <\/b>Mobile connections obtained using fake\/ forged documents are used for cyber-frauds.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2013 To curb this menace, the Department of Telecom has developed an AI-powered tool \u2013 ASTR to identify SIMs issued using fraudulent\/forged documents.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2013 ASTR detects <\/span>individuals who have registered more than 9 mobile connections \u2013 the maximum allowed currently \u2013 to verify whether they have been created using legitimate means.<\/span><\/p>\n
