What is the News?<\/b><\/h2>\n

South Asia Gas Enterprise (SAGE) has sought the support of the Ministry of Petroleum and others to develop an undersea gas pipeline from the Gulf to India.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What is the Middle East to India Deepwater Pipeline (MEIDP)?<\/b><\/h2>\n

It has been proposed by South Asia Gas Enterprise (SAGE).<\/span><\/p>\n

It is a 2,000-km-long energy corridor that aims to connect the Gas Rich Gulf & Middle East regions to India, for the transportation of Natural Gas to secure India’s Energy Needs.<\/span><\/p>\n

The route being looked at is via Oman and UAE through the Arabian Sea to avoid geopolitically sensitive regions.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The pipeline will allow options to import gas from Oman, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Turkmenistan and Qatar, a region with 2,500 trillion cubic feet (tcf) of gas reserves.<\/span><\/p>\n

The pipeline is projected to deliver 31 million metric standard cubic meters per day (mmscmd) of gas to India under a 20-year long-term supply contract.<\/span><\/p>\n

If realized, the pipeline could result in annual savings of around 7,000 crores compared to importing an equivalent quantity of liquefied natural gas (LNG).<\/span><\/p>\n

What is <\/b>South Asia Gas Enterprise (SAGE)?<\/b><\/h2>\n

SAGE is an international consortium of companies in deepwater pipeline projects.<\/span><\/p>\n
