{"id":243404,"date":"2023-05-22T20:37:52","date_gmt":"2023-05-22T15:07:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=243404"},"modified":"2023-05-22T20:37:52","modified_gmt":"2023-05-22T15:07:52","slug":"govt-cuts-subsidy-on-electric-2-wheelers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/govt-cuts-subsidy-on-electric-2-wheelers\/","title":{"rendered":"Govt cuts subsidy on electric 2-wheelers"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><b>Source: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The post is based on the article <\/span><b>\u201c<\/b><b>Govt cuts subsidy on electric 2-wheelers<\/b><b>\u201d <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">published in<\/span><b> Livemint <\/b>on <b>22nd May 2023<\/b><\/p>\n<h2><b>What is the News?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ministry of Heavy Industries has cut the subsidy on electric two-wheelers in an effort to\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">overhaul the financial incentives given to this growing industry.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>What has been announced by the government related to subsidies on electric two-wheelers?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The government has announced that the subsidy for electric two-wheelers would be reduced to \u20b910,000 per kilowatt hour (kWh) effective 1 June from \u20b915,000 currently.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The lower subsidy would be applicable to all electric two-wheelers registered on or after 1 June 2023.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Further, the cap on incentives for such vehicles has been lowered to 15% of the ex-factory price of vehicles from the earlier 40%.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But the total amount allocated toward providing incentives for these vehicles will be raised from the current \u20b92,000 crores.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Why has the government reduced subsidies on electric two-wheelers?<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The intention behind lowering the subsidy and increasing the funds for electric two-wheelers is to <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">support more consumers through the FAME scheme with the available funds.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>What is a FAME Scheme?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The FAME Scheme was launched in 2019 for a three-year period. The scheme has now been extended until 31 March 2024.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The scheme provides incentives for electric vehicles in the segments of electric three-wheelers, electric four-wheelers, and electric buses.
