It declared that it is time for the Security Council to reflect on its potential for action in the face of the increasing number of crises.<\/span><\/p>\n Switzerland itself has not always been a peaceful country. It was ravaged by <\/span>several civil wars <\/span><\/b>between Catholics and Protestants for a period of up to 300 years.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The last civil war of 1847 led to<\/span> deep reflection<\/span><\/b> for the Swiss people and their political leadership. As a result of this, the Swiss people decided to set up <\/span>inclusive federal institutions<\/span><\/b> to build domestic peace.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Switzerland\u2019s history helps to explain the choice of the Swiss government\u2019s priorities for its two-year term in the UNSC.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The priorities of Switzerland are also the same ones ingrained in <\/span>ahimsa.<\/span><\/b> It is the Indian <\/span>religious and ethical principle<\/span><\/b> of not <\/span>causing harm to other living things.<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n India, in whose teachings the <\/span>non-violence<\/span><\/b> values are rooted, is a <\/span>natural partner<\/span><\/b> when it comes to <\/span>Swiss foreign policy priorities.<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n There are <\/span>evident convergences<\/span><\/b> between Swiss and Indian foreign policy priorities.
