Which are the areas that are important for increasing India’s soft power? <\/strong><\/h2>\n

Universities:<\/em> <\/strong>The intellectual decline of universities like Shantiniketan, Delhi<\/a>, Allahabad, Presidency, JNU, represents failed governance and strategy<\/strong>. Harvard\u2019s $51 billion endowment <\/strong>is due to partnership with alums and philanthropists.<\/p>\n

Our university renewal has begun. IIT-Mumbai<\/a> has a business school, IIM-Bangalore<\/a> is starting undergraduate degrees, and IISC is starting a medical school.<\/p>\n

Non-profit universities like Ashoka are now strong alternatives<\/strong> to studying abroad.<\/p>\n

Think tanks:<\/strong> India has a weak layer between academia and journalism that focus upon research, evidence, and second-best choices<\/strong>. Good government requires a steady stream of good ideas.<\/p>\n

Their challenges in India include the lack of lateral entry into government, domestic philanthropic preferences, suspicion of foreign funding, and weak legitimate corporate advocacy.<\/strong><\/p>\n

These challenges are reducing. Policy legitimacy<\/strong> for think tanks will grow our marketplace for policy ideas<\/strong> and generate global soft power.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Government schools<\/strong>: It\u2019s embarrassing that only 50% of India\u2019s kids<\/strong> attend government schools. If anything should be free with quality<\/strong> in a society, it is primary education.<\/p>\n

Unlike China, India’s economic transition is happening to service jobs. Service sector requires foundational skills of literacy and numeracy.<\/strong><\/p>\n

NIPUN Bharat\u00a0 mission aims for the universal acquisition of critical foundational skills by 2026.<\/p>\n

Publishers:<\/strong> The dominance of the West in publishing books and academic journals is built on history, skills and resources. <\/strong><\/p>\n

There is a lack of highly-ranked Indian academic journals.<\/strong> The peer review system<\/strong> is based on soft relationships and technology<\/strong> that are not easily accessible. Almost 50% of peer-reviewed hypotheses are unreplicable or get retracted. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Translation:<\/strong> \u2018State of Indian Translations Report\u2019<\/strong> suggests only 5,600 Indian language books exist in English.<\/p>\n

Translation scale is a uniquely Indian problem<\/strong>. It is further complicated by the complexity of translating<\/strong> books among Indian languages.<\/p>\n

The Bhashini Project<\/strong> of the Ministry of IT, the AI4Bharat Centre at IIT-Madras, and the Bharatiya Bhasha Samiti of the Ministry of Education will unlock our languages for ourselves and for the world.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
