What is the News?<\/b><\/h2>\n

The fourth ship of the Survey Vessels (Large) (SVL) Project, named \u2018Sanshodhak\u2019 was launched at Kattupalli, Chennai.<\/span><\/p>\n

What is Sanshodhak?<\/b><\/h2>\n

Sanshodhak is the fourth of four ships of the Survey Vessels (Large) (SVL) Project being built by L&T\/ Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE) for the Indian Navy.<\/span><\/p>\n

The first three ships of the project, <\/span>Sandhayak, Nirdeshak and Iksha<\/b>k<\/strong> were launched in 2022.<\/span><\/p>\n

SVL ships will replace the existing<\/span> Sandhayak Class survey ships, <\/b>with new-generation hydrographic equipment, to collect oceanographic data.<\/span><\/p>\n

Functions:<\/b> The primary role of the ships would be to undertake full-scale coastal and deep-water hydrographic surveys of Ports and navigational channels.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2013 The ships would also be deployed for collecting oceanographic and geophysical data for defence as well as civil applications.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2013 In their secondary role, the ships are capable of providing limited defence, HADR and can serve as Hospital ships during emergencies.<\/span><\/p>\n

Significance:<\/b> The Survey Vessel (Large) <\/span>ships are made from indigenously developed DMR 249-A steel manufactured by Steel Authority of India Limited.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2013 The ships have over 80% indigenous content by cost, ensuring defence production by Indian manufacturing units with a spin-off in employment generation and warship-building capability in the country.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
