{"id":249262,"date":"2023-06-23T20:02:23","date_gmt":"2023-06-23T14:32:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=249262"},"modified":"2023-06-23T20:02:23","modified_gmt":"2023-06-23T14:32:23","slug":"new-low-cost-technology-reduces-textile-effluent-pollution-significantly","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/new-low-cost-technology-reduces-textile-effluent-pollution-significantly\/","title":{"rendered":"New low cost technology reduces textile effluent pollution significantly"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><b>Source: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The post is based on the article<\/span><b> \u201c<\/b><b>New low cost technology reduces textile effluent pollution significantly<\/b><b>\u201d <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">published in <\/span><b>PIB <\/b>on <b>22nd June 2023<\/b><\/p>\n<h2><b>What is the News?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">NIT Warangal has developed new low cost technology that significantly reduces textile effluent pollution.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>What is Textile effluent?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Textile effluent is heavily contaminated with pollutants such as dyes, dissolved solids, suspended solids and toxic metals.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The main factor to be considered in textile effluent is total dissolved solids (TDS).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Because of the use of common salt and Glauber salt, the level of TDS increases in textile wastewater.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The direct discharge of textile effluents may increase the level of TDS in groundwater and surface water.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The presence of TDS (high or low concentration) in water may affect the osmotic balance, causing swelling or dehydration in aquatic organisms and a change in taste.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The quality of irrigation of water depends on the salt content. When the salt content increases, it contaminates the water and makes it unsuitable for domestic, industrial and agricultural use.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hence, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">there is a need for robust, efficient technologies to treat such effluent before they are discharged into the environment.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>What have the researchers developed?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">NIT Warangal has developed a pilot-scale textile effluent treatment plant using biosurfactants (BS), cavitation (a process in which pressure variations in a liquid can in a short period of time cause countless small cavities to form and then implode&#8211;C), and membrane (M) technology.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This technology offers a sustainable solution for textile effluent by converting the toxic wastewater to an irrigation source for the nearby agricultural areas and holds immense potential for <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">replacing existing secondary treatment plants due to its lower installation cost and lesser carbon footprint.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Source: The post is based on the article \u201cNew low cost technology reduces textile effluent pollution significantly\u201d published in PIB on 22nd June 2023 What is the News?
