What are some facts about the UGC\u2019s initiative to institutionalise the concept of \u2018Professor of Practice\u2019?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

It is a step towards an entrepreneurial university<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

As per UGC, the objective behind introducing a Professor of Practice is to enhance the quality of higher education by bringing practitioners, policymakers, and skilled professionals<\/strong>\u00a0 into the higher education system.<\/p>\n

This will help take real world practices and experiences<\/strong> into classrooms and also augment faculty resources<\/strong> in higher education institutions. Industry and society will benefit from trained graduates who are equipped with the relevant skills.<\/p>\n

PoPs are often hired from outside academia.<\/strong> They may not be required to have a PhD or other advanced research degree<\/strong>. PoPs can be found in fields that include business, engineering, law, journalism, and the arts.<\/p>\n

In the field of engineering, for example, a PoP can teach courses that focus on practical, real-world applications<\/strong> and share their insights in applied learning. <\/strong><\/p>\n

PoPs can serve as ambassadors for their universities, building relationships with industry partners.<\/strong> They help to connect students with internship and job opportunities. <\/strong><\/p>\n

They can also participate in professional organisations and conferences<\/strong> to stay up-to-date on industry trends and best practices<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
