What is the News?<\/b><\/h2>\n

The Union Minister of Science and Technology has launched GEMCOVAC\u00ae -OM, an Omicron-specific mRNA-based Booster vaccine.<\/span><\/p>\n

What is GEMCOVAC-OM?<\/b><\/h2>\n

GEMCOVAC-OM is an indigenously developed mRNA vaccine against the dominant Omicron variant of the COVID-19 coronavirus.<\/span><\/p>\n

It is <\/span>India\u2019s first mRNA vaccine.<\/b><\/p>\n

Developed by<\/b>: <\/span>Pune based Gennova Biopharmaceuticals with funding support from the Department of Biotechnology (DBT) and Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Features: <\/b>It is a thermostable vaccine and does not require ultra-cold chain infrastructure used for other approved mRNA-based vaccines.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2013 It is delivered intra-dermally using a needle-free injection device system.<\/span><\/p>\n
