It has not been clarified whether the deletion is caused by<strong> teaching overload, comprehension challenges or being outdated.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>School teachers should have more say in deciding about the revised syllabus<strong>,<\/strong> not university academics.<\/p>\n<p>There is<strong> no survey of students\u2019 reactions<\/strong> to the themes of the deleted chapters.<\/p>\n<p>73 educational authorities supported the pruning. This is not clear whether they devoted enough time to <strong>read and reflect on the deleted chapters.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Names of the experts<\/strong> who suggested the deletions are <strong>not in public domain.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The deletions from textbooks of political science and Indian history were done last year. Most recently,<strong> \u2018Themes in World History\u2019 (Class XI)<\/strong> has also been <strong>rationalised<\/strong>. These were written by<strong> excellent scholars. <\/strong><\/p>\n<h2><strong>What is the way forward?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>There is a need to<strong> talk and argue<\/strong> about the content of <strong>NCERT books. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>History textbooks must be<strong> taken seriously. <\/strong>For most of our literate citizens,<strong> school textbooks are the only history they will read.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Artists, writers, and researchers must pitch in to make history <strong>unforgettable.<\/strong> Thoughtful histories do not simply <strong>glorify or denigrate rulers<\/strong>.
