A study has found signs <\/span>of active tectonic deformations in the Piedmont alluvial plains of northern Haryana.<\/span><\/p>\n

Tectonic deformation refers to the changes in the Earth\u2019s crust caused by the movement and interaction of tectonic plates.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What was the study conducted by the researchers?<\/b><\/p>\n

The study investigated the piedmont zone between the Ghaggar and Yamuna river basins<\/strong> in the frontal parts of the northwest Himalayas of Haryana.<\/span><\/p>\n

It <\/span>focused on the piedmont alluvial plains and covered parts of Panchkula, Ambala and Yamunanagar districts in Haryana and Mohali district in Punjab.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2013 Note:<\/b> Piedmont plains are situated at the foot of mountains or hills.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

How was this study conducted?<\/b><\/p>\n

This study was conducted using satellite data and validated by geophysical ground penetrating radar (GPR) surveys.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

GPR is an important tool, ideally suited for obtaining high-resolution profiles of the subsurface over a depth range of a few meters to several tens of meters.<\/span><\/p>\n

What did the researchers find?<\/b><\/p>\n

Researchers have found active signs of tectonic deformations in the piedmont alluvial plains of northern Haryana.<\/span><\/p>\n

This active deformation zone <\/span>could become a future seismic hazard zone.<\/span><\/p>\n
