{"id":250988,"date":"2023-07-06T20:56:26","date_gmt":"2023-07-06T15:26:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=250988"},"modified":"2023-07-06T20:56:26","modified_gmt":"2023-07-06T15:26:26","slug":"chandrayaan-3-integrated-with-launch-vehicle-lvm3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/chandrayaan-3-integrated-with-launch-vehicle-lvm3\/","title":{"rendered":"Chandrayaan-3 integrated with launch vehicle LVM3"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><b>Source: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The post is based on the article<\/span><b> \u201cChandrayaan-3 integrated with launch vehicle LVM3\u201d<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> published in <\/span><b>The Hindu on 6th July 2023<\/b><\/p>\n<h2><b>What is the News?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has announced that it has successfully integrated the Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft with the launch vehicle, Launch Vehicle Mark-III (LVM3), at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>What is Chandrayaan-3?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/chandrayaan-3-successfully-completes-crucial-test\/\"><b>Click Here to read<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n<h2><b>Why has Chandrayaan-3 been integrated with LVM3?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Chandrayaan-3, which consists of a lander, rover and propulsion module, can\u2019t travel to space on its own.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It needs to be attached \u2014 like any satellite \u2014 to launch vehicles or rockets, like the LVM3 in this case.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rockets have powerful propulsion systems that generate the huge amount of energy required to lift heavy objects like satellites into space, overcoming the gravitational pull of the Earth.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>What is LVM3?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">LVM3 is India\u2019s heaviest rocket with a gross lift-off weight of 640 tonnes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is essentially a three-stage launch vehicle, including two solid boosters (S200), the core liquid fuel-based stage (L110), and the cryogenic upper stage (C25).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It can carry up to 8 tonnes of payload to the lower earth orbits (LEO), which is about 200 km from the Earth\u2019s surface.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But when it comes to the geostationary transfer orbits (GTO), which lie much further ahead, up to about 35,000 km from the Earth, it can carry only about four tonnes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">LVM3 made its first journey into space in 2014 and also carried the Chandrayaan-2 in 2019.
