The process of formation of polymers from respective monomers is called polymerisation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Types of Polymers:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Under this type of classification, there are three sub categories:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>\u2013 Natural polymers<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: These polymers are found in plants and animals. Examples are proteins, cellulose, starch, some resins and rubber.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>\u2013 Semi-synthetic polymers: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">are <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">those that are derived from nature itself but are made to undergo chemical processes to enhance their quality<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cellulose derivatives such as cellulose acetate (rayon) and cellulose nitrate etc. are the usual examples of this sub category.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>\u2013 Synthetic polymers<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These are those which are human-made polymers. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some examples of synthetic polymers are: plastic (polythene), synthetic fibres (nylon 6,6) and synthetic rubbers (Buna &#8211; S).<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>What are Interpenetrating polymer networks?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Interpenetrating polymer networks are soft matter systems that innovatively optimize different functionalities such as mechanical, optical, and electrical properties to provide novel solutions in engineering and biomedical applications.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A specific class of these architectures called as<\/span><b> hierarchical double networks <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">synergistically combine rigid and soft networks to realize thermal, electrical, and optical properties.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Source: The post is based on the article \u201cLow-energy-consuming switchable smart windows developed based on novel architecture for confining liquid crystals\u201d published in PIB on 13th July 2023 What is the News?
