{"id":252213,"date":"2023-07-15T20:33:43","date_gmt":"2023-07-15T15:03:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=252213"},"modified":"2023-07-15T20:33:43","modified_gmt":"2023-07-15T15:03:43","slug":"skill-india-project-successfully-revives-the-dying-namda-art-of-jammu-and-kashmir","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/skill-india-project-successfully-revives-the-dying-namda-art-of-jammu-and-kashmir\/","title":{"rendered":"Skill India project successfully revives the dying Namda Art of Jammu and Kashmir"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><b>Source: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The post is based on the article <\/span><b>\u201c<\/b><b>Skill India project successfully revives the dying Namda Art of Jammu and Kashmir<\/b><b>\u201d <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">published in<\/span><b> PIB <\/b>on<b> 14th July 2023<\/b><\/p>\n<h2><b>What is the News?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Union Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship has flagged off the first batch of Namda Art products for export to the United Kingdom (UK).<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>What is Namda Art?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-252215\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/download.jpeg?resize=300%2C156&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"156\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/download.jpeg?resize=300%2C156&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/download.jpeg?w=311&amp;ssl=1 311w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Namda is a type of traditional Kashmiri rug (rug is\u00a0<em>something made of woven fabric that covers a floor).<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is made of sheep wool through felting technique instead of the normal weaving process.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Note:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Felting is the process of producing a textile or fabric by combining and compressing the loose fibers, wool or hair.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>What has the government done to revive the Namda Art?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Due to low availability of raw material, lack of skilled manpower and marketing techniques, the export of Namda craft has declined almost 100 percent between 1998 and 2008.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To preserve this craft, the government has launched a project to revive the Namda craft under a Skill India\u2019s Pilot Project as part of the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/pmkvy-pradhan-mantri-kaushal-vikas-yojana\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY).<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Under this project, nearly 2,200 candidates have been trained in the art of Namda craft, representing a significant milestone in preserving this traditional craft and empowering the local weavers and artisans.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">project sets a great example of the public-private partnership (PPP) model in the field of skill development, as it is being implemented in collaboration with local industry partners.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Source: The post is based on the article \u201cSkill India project successfully revives the dying Namda Art of Jammu and Kashmir\u201d published in PIB on 14th July 2023 What is the News?
