GS3- Security<\/p>\n<p><strong>Relevance:<\/strong> Internal security matters of India and its international implications<\/p>\n<p><strong>News- <\/strong>Recently, the EU parliament has passed a resolution on Manipur violence.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>What are issues with the EU parliament resolution?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The EU Parliament resolution has framed the problem in Manipur on r<strong>eligious grounds<\/strong>. It is portrayed as a <strong>Hindus versus Christians issue. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The fight between the <strong>Hindu-majority Meitei community and the Christian denominated Kuki-Zo community<\/strong> has led to vandalising of churches and temples. It has given way to this understanding.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Why is India &#8216;s response to the EU resolution an overreaction?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>India wants <strong>greater economic integration<\/strong>. It promotes itself as the <strong>representative of a nation committed to democratic, liberal and plural values and the rule of law<\/strong>. It cannot dismiss scrutiny by like-minded nations.<\/p>\n<p>India\u2019s dismissal of the EU Parliament\u2019s resolution on the violence in Manipur shows<strong> colonial mindset. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Indian politicians have expressed their concerns over <strong>attacks on Hindu temples in Australia<\/strong> and <strong>racial prejudice <\/strong>in the U.S. and <strong>anti-immigrant violence<\/strong> in Europe.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>What are the factors responsible for violence in Manipur?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Violence was the result of<strong> erroneous order<\/strong> passed by a single judge Bench in the Manipur High Court. It includes Meiteis in the <strong>list of Scheduled Tribes in the State. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It led to <strong>discontent among the Naga community<\/strong> which is also predominantly Christian by denomination. But, the <strong>ethnic violence<\/strong> has been limited to actions by militants belonging to the <strong>Kuki-Zo and the Meitei communities<\/strong>. It was exacerbated by an<strong> ethnic polarisation. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Socio-economic variances <\/strong>in the \u201chill\u201d and \u201cvalley\u201d areas, has led to distrust. There was an inability of the government led by Chief Minister N.
