What is the News?<\/b><\/h2>\n

Rajya Sabha Chairman has reconstituted the panel of vice chairpersons.<\/span><\/p>\n

F<\/span>or the first time in the history of the Rajya Sabha<\/span>, the Chairman has <\/span>nominated four women parliamentarians to the panel of vice-chairpersons, giving women equal representation<\/strong> in the panel.<\/span><\/p>\n

One among the <\/span>newly nominated women members is S. Phangnon Konyak. She is the first woman to be elected as a Member of the Rajya Sabha from Nagaland in April 2022 and the second woman from the State to be elected to either House of the Parliament or the State Assembly.<\/span><\/p>\n

What is the Panel of Vice-Chairpersons?<\/b><\/h2>\n

Under the Rules of Rajya Sabha, the Chairman nominates from amongst the members a panel of vice-chairpersons.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Any one of the members of the Panel of Vice-Chairpersons can preside over the House in the absence of the Chairman or the Deputy Chairman. He has the same powers as the Chairman when so presiding. He holds office until a new panel of vice-chairpersons is nominated.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

When a member of the panel of vice chairpersons is also not present, any other person as determined by the House acts as the Chairman.<\/span><\/p>\n

lt must be emphasized here that a member of the panel of vice chairpersons cannot preside over the House, when the office of the Chairman or the Deputy Chairman is vacant.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

During such time, the Chairman\u2019s duties are to be performed by such member of the House as the president may appoint for the purpose. The elections are held, as soon as possible, to fill the vacant posts.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
