{"id":253818,"date":"2023-07-28T20:30:36","date_gmt":"2023-07-28T15:00:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=253818"},"modified":"2023-07-28T20:30:36","modified_gmt":"2023-07-28T15:00:36","slug":"lok-sabha-passes-jan-vishwas-amendment-of-provisions-bill-2023-in-parliament","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/lok-sabha-passes-jan-vishwas-amendment-of-provisions-bill-2023-in-parliament\/","title":{"rendered":"Lok Sabha passes Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Bill, 2023 in Parliament"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><b>Source: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The post is based on the article <\/span><b>\u201c<\/b><b>Lok Sabha passes Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Bill, 2023 in Parliament<\/b><b>\u201d<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0 published i<\/span>n <b>PIB on 27th July 2023.<\/b><\/p>\n<h2><b>What is the News?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Bill, 2023 has been passed in Lok Sabha.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>What is the Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Bill, 2023?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Jan Vishwas Bill aims to decriminalize around 180 offences by amending 42 laws across sectors including environment, agriculture, media, industry and publication.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some of the acts which are being amended include The Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940; Public Debt Act, 1944; Copyright Act, 1957; Patents Act, 1970; Environment (Protection) Act, 1986; Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 among others.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The offences will be decriminalized by either <\/span><b>1) <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">eliminating both imprisonment and\/or fine <\/span><b>2) <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">removing imprisonment while retaining or increasing fines or <\/span><b>3) <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">changing imprisonment and\/or fine to penalties.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Moreover, the bill removes all offences under the Post Office Act,1898.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>What are the benefits of the Bill?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><b>Firstly, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the Bill will help in rationalizing criminal provisions to ensure that citizens, businesses and the government departments operate without fear of imprisonment for minor or technical defaults.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Secondly,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the bill establishes a balance between the severity of the offence or violation committed and the gravity of the prescribed punishment.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Thirdly, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the technical and procedural lapses and minor defaults had been burdening the justice delivery system and delaying the adjudication of serious offences. Therefore, the bill would reduce undue pressure on the justice system and reduce the pendency of cases.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Fourthly, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the decriminalization of provisions which affect citizens and some government employees will help them live without the fear of imprisonment for minor violations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Lastly, i<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">t will help in rationalizing laws, eliminating barriers and bolstering growth of businesses and will save time and cost for both the government and businesses.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Source: The post is based on the article \u201cLok Sabha passes Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Bill, 2023 in Parliament\u201d\u00a0 published in PIB on 27th July 2023.
