What are arguments against the death penalty?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The potency of the death penalty has diminished as human rights<\/strong> became codified both legally and socially<\/strong>. Fear has yielded ground to civil considerations. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Today, the efficacy of this punishment as a deterren<\/strong>t is uncertain. Research has revealed only tenuous connections<\/strong> between crime rates and executions. <\/strong><\/p>\n

The associated costs<\/strong> remain substantial. Taking a life is irreversible, and there is risk of a wrongful conviction<\/strong>. No justice system can ensure complete accuracy<\/strong> in assigning guilt, regardless of intention. Imperfections<\/strong> are inevitable.<\/p>\n

Under the norms established by the Supreme Court, this penalty is reserved for “rarest of rare” <\/strong>cases. Although this provision holds value in its intent to decrease executions, It does not succeed in lessening the significant moral burden<\/strong> on our conscience.<\/p>\n

Some argue that abolition of the death penalty can lead to unintended consequences. <\/strong><\/p>\n

If executions were abolished, there might be a rise in police encounters<\/strong> due to pressure to maintain law and order. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Lenient laws might result in more aggressive policing<\/strong> on the ground. Severe penalties could help curb vigilante actions<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

This argument is flawed. It assumes that it’s acceptable for the rule of law<\/strong> to be influenced by societal conditions<\/strong>. It is disregarding its supremacy in principle.<\/strong> It overlooks the potential for police reforms.<\/p>\n
