What is the News?<\/b><\/h2>\n

Technology Development Board (TDB) is supporting M\/s Eco Recycling Limited with \u20b96 crores for their innovative e-waste management project called <\/span>\u2018Recycling on Wheels Smart ER’<\/b> which has a total cost of \u20b912 crores.<\/span><\/p>\n

What is the \u201cRecycling on Wheels Smart ER\u201d Project?<\/b><\/h2>\n

Launched by:<\/b> M\/s Eco Recycling Limited.<\/span><\/p>\n

Purpose:<\/b> It is an innovative e-waste management project that focuses on improving e-waste management.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The project\u2019s workflow includes: <\/b>1) Pre-processing e-waste on a mobile facility 2) Scanning and serializing e-waste devices 3) Shredding the devices 4) Collecting shredded e-waste in secure bins and 5) Environmentally friendly disposal of the shredded e-waste.<\/span><\/p>\n

Features of the project:<\/b> The project serves Special Economic Zones (SEZs) and R&D centers filling a crucial gap in e-waste management in India.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2013 The project also offers skill development for informal sector workers and aligns with Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) principles.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2013 In its second phase, the project aims to extract precious metals from the shredded waste, contributing to a circular economy.<\/span><\/p>\n

Significance:<\/b> The e-waste problem in India is a major concern with only 20% of the 3.2 million tonnes generated in 2019-20 being formally recycled.<\/span><\/p>\n
