The addition of the AU to the G20 aims to<strong> rectify this imbalance<\/strong> and ensure that Africa has a<strong> stronger voice in international affairs.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2><strong>What is the status of the bilateral relationship between India and the African Union?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>India has been making continuous efforts to establish itself as a <strong>credible alternative development partner <\/strong>to China.<\/p>\n<p>This shift in focus is evident, including in the <strong>realm of defense<\/strong>. India and Africa held their <strong>inaugural joint army chiefs conclave<\/strong> earlier this year.<\/p>\n<p>India is also gaining prominence as a<strong> major defense equipment provider<\/strong> to African nations. Seychelles, Mauritius, and Mozambique ranking as the<strong> top three importers<\/strong> of Indian-made arms from 2017 to 2022.<\/p>\n<p>The ongoing <strong>initiatives in healthcare, education, and solar energy generation<\/strong> in Africa further underscore<strong> India&#8217;s growing engagement<\/strong> with the continent.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>What is the way forward for India-Africa relations?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Firstly,<\/strong> both parties should promptly confirm the dates for the long-awaited <strong>fourth India-Africa Forum Summit. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Secondly,<\/strong> India should enhance its presence in <strong>Francophone Africa<\/strong>.
