Coercion and consent are both parts of it.<\/p>\n<p>However, at this symbolic level, there has been a global trend of introducing <strong>substantial changes<\/strong> in the methods of <strong>popular governance.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2><strong>What is the global trend across many democratic nations?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Rise of authoritarian populism &#8211;<\/strong> Many democratic nations, including India, are shifting toward <strong>authoritarian populism. <\/strong>Power has concentrated in a single s<strong>upreme leader<\/strong> who enjoys <strong>popularity<\/strong> among a <strong>dominant segment <\/strong>of the population.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Degradation of institutions- <\/strong>Populist regimes lead to the<strong> degradation of the institutions of modern democracies<\/strong>. These institutions are used for promoting <strong>the supreme leader&#8217;s agendas. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Institutions crucial for the d<strong>eliberative aspects of democracy<\/strong>, such as the media, universities, the judiciary, and the bureaucracy, are particularly targeted.<strong> The institution of Parliament<\/strong> is also impacted in this process.
