Bengaluru is all set to host the 5th World Coffee Conference(WCC).<\/span><\/p>\n

What is the World Coffee Conference(WCC)?<\/b><\/h2>\n

Organized by:<\/b> International Coffee Organisation (ICO) in collaboration with the Coffee Board of India, Ministry of Commerce and Industry and Government of Karnataka.<\/span><\/p>\n

Aim:<\/b> To <\/span>discuss, debate, and collaborate on building a sustainable coffee industry.<\/span><\/p>\n

Theme: <\/b>“Sustainability through the circular economy and regenerative agriculture”\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What is the International Coffee Organization(ICO)?<\/b><\/h2>\n

International Coffee Organization (ICO) was established in 1963 under the aegis of the United Nations and following the approval of the first International Coffee Agreement in 1962.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The ICO is the only intergovernmental organization for coffee, bringing together exporting and importing Governments.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It currently represents 93% of world coffee production and 63% of world consumption.<\/span><\/p>\n

India is a member of this organization.<\/span><\/p>\n

What is the Coffee Board of India?<\/b><\/h2>\n

Coffee Board is a statutory organization constituted under Section (4) of the Coffee Act, 1942.<\/span><\/p>\n

It functions under the administrative control of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Board is headquartered in Bengaluru.<\/span><\/p>\n

Coffee Production in India:<\/b><\/h2>\n

The most well-known species of coffee grown in India are Robusta and Arabica.Robusta coffee accounts for over 70% of coffee production.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the year 2021-22, India was the 5<\/span>th<\/span> largest exporter of coffee in the world with a share of about 6% of global coffee exports.<\/span><\/p>\n

Karnataka is the largest coffee producer in India, accounting for 70 per cent of total coffee production.It is followed by Kerala and Tamil Nadu.<\/span><\/p>\n
