Recovering the money, and reprimanding the officials responsible, is up to the State governments.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>What are the issues faced by the <\/b><b>Social Audit units under MGNREGA?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><b>Firstly, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">S<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ocial audit units are suffering because they are found-starved and do not have trained or adequate personnel working for them.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Secondly<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">less than 14% of the amount flagged by the social audit units has been recovered so far by the state.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2013 This dismal recovery rate threatens the credibility of the audit process since it makes the entire exercise futile.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Source: The post is based on the article \u201cMGNREGS social audit unit in a state of paralysis in many States\u201d published in \u201cThe Hindu\u201d on 29th September 2023.
