What is the News?<\/b><\/h2>\n

Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency Ltd. (IREDA)<\/span> has been upgraded from ‘Schedule B’ to the ‘Schedule A’ category of Central Public Sector Enterprises.<\/span><\/p>\n

How are CPSE\u2019s grouped into different schedules?<\/b><\/h2>\n

The Department of Public Enterprises, Ministry of Finance has laid down criteria for initial as well as re-categorization of Central Public Sector Enterprises(CPSEs) into appropriate schedules.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

All CPSEs are required to be categorized into four schedules, namely, Schedule \u2018A\u2019, Schedule \u2019B\u2019, Schedule \u2018C\u2019 and Schedule \u2018D\u2019.<\/span><\/p>\n

The categorization of CPSE has implications mainly for organizational structure and salary of Board level incumbents of the concerned CPSE.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What is <\/b>Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency Ltd.(IREDA)<\/b>?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

IREDA <\/span>is a Mini Ratna (Category\u2013I) non-banking financial institution under the administrative control of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE).<\/span><\/p>\n

It is a\u00a0 Public Limited Government Company established as a Non-Banking Financial Institution (NBFC) in 1987.<\/span><\/p>\n

IREDA has been notified as a \u201cPublic Financial Institution\u201d under section 4 \u2018A\u2019 of the Companies Act, 1956 and registered as NBFC with Reserve Bank of India (RBI).<\/span><\/p>\n

Purpose:<\/b> It is primarily engaged in promoting, developing and extending financial assistance for setting up projects relating to new and renewable sources of energy and energy efficiency\/conservation.<\/span><\/p>\n

Motto: <\/b>ENERGY FOR EVER<\/span><\/p>\n

Funding: <\/b>IREDA generates its revenue through the interest and principal repayments from the projects it finances, as well as by raising funds from the market and through borrowings.<\/span><\/p>\n

How will IREDA elevation from <\/b>‘Schedule B’ to the ‘Schedule A’ category help?<\/b><\/h2>\n

The elevation of IREDA to the \u2018Schedule A\u2019 category opens the door for its upgradation from \u201cMini Ratna (Category\u2013 I)\u201d to \u201cNavratna\u201d status.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
