{"id":262755,"date":"2023-10-04T19:23:59","date_gmt":"2023-10-04T13:53:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=262755"},"modified":"2023-10-04T20:39:15","modified_gmt":"2023-10-04T15:09:15","slug":"umbrella-scheme-of-shreyas-comprising-4-central-sector-sub-schemes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/umbrella-scheme-of-shreyas-comprising-4-central-sector-sub-schemes\/","title":{"rendered":"Umbrella Scheme of &#8220;SHREYAS&#8221; comprising 4 central sector sub- schemes"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><b>Source: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The post is based on the article <\/span><b>\u201c<\/b><b>Umbrella Scheme of &#8220;SHREYAS&#8221; comprising 4 central sector sub- schemes<\/b><b>\u201d<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> published in<\/span><b> \u201cPIB\u201d on 4th October 2023<\/b><\/p>\n<h2><b>What is the News?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This article talks about the Scholarships for Higher Education for Young Achievers Scheme (SHREYAS).<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>What is SHREYAS Scheme?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><b>Nodal Ministry: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ministry of Social Justice &amp; Empowerment<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Aim:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> To bridge educational disparities by providing financial support, coaching, and overseas opportunities to SCs and OBCs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Sub-Schemes:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The scheme comprises of four central sector sub-schemes:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Free Coaching Scheme for SCs and OBCs: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The objective of the Scheme is to provide coaching of good quality for economically disadvantaged Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Other Backward Classes (OBCs) candidates to enable them appear in competitive and entrance examinations for obtaining appropriate jobs in Public\/Private Sector as well as for securing admission in reputed technical and professional higher education institutions.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>\u2013 Income ceiling:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The ceiling of the total family income under the scheme is 8 lakhs per annum.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>\u2013 Seats allotted: 3<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">500 slots are allotted per annum.The ratio of SC: OBC students is 70:30 and 30% slots are reserved for females in each category.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2013 In case of non-availability of adequate number of candidates in SC category the Ministry can relax this ratio. However, in no case, less than 50% SC students shall be permitted.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Top Class Education for SCs: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Scheme aims at recognizing and promoting quality education amongst students belonging to SCs, by providing full financial support.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2013<\/span><b> Coverag<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">e: The scheme will cover SC students for pursuing studies beyond 12th class.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2013 <\/span><b>Income ceiling: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The ceiling of the total family income under the scheme is 8 lakhs per annum.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2013<\/span><b> Institutes covered: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Presently, 266 higher education institutes which includes Government institutes and private institutes such as all the IIMs, IITs, NITs and top 100 National Institutional ranking Framework (NIRF) ranking institutes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2013 <\/span><b>Financial support: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The scheme will provide tuition fee, academic allowance, and other expenses.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>National Overseas Scheme for SCs: It aims to provide <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">financial assistance to the selected students from SCs, De-notified, Nomadic and Semi-Nomadic Tribes, landless agricultural laborers and traditional artisan categories for pursuing masters and Ph.D. level courses abroad.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Eligibility criteria:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The total family income including the candidate should be less than Rs. 8 lakhs per annum.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2013 Moreover, the candidate should have secured more than 60% marks in the qualifying examination, is below 35 years of age and secured admission in top 500 QS ranking foreign Institutes\/ Universities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>National Fellowship for SC Students: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Under the scheme, fellowship is provided to Scheduled Castes students for pursuing higher education leading to M.Phil\/ Ph.D degrees in Sciences, Humanities and Social Sciences in Indian Universities\/Institutions<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\/ Colleges <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">recognized <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">by University Grants Commission (UGC).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>\u2013 Eligibility: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students should have qualified the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">National Eligibility Test- Junior Research Fellowship (NET-JRF) of UGC and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Junior Research Fellows<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for Science stream <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">qualifying UGC<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">-Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (UGC-CSIR) J<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">oint Test.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>\u2013 Seats:<\/b> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Provides 2000 new slots annually (500 for Science and 1500 for Humanities\/Social Sciences.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Source: The post is based on the article \u201cUmbrella Scheme of &#8220;SHREYAS&#8221; comprising 4 central sector sub- schemes\u201d published in \u201cPIB\u201d on 4th October 2023 What is the News?
