What is the News?<\/b><\/h2>\n

The Government of India has notified the constitution of the National Turmeric Board.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What is the National Turmeric Board?<\/b><\/h2>\n

Aim: <\/b>To focus on the development and growth of turmeric and turmeric products in the country.<\/span><\/p>\n

Objectives of the Board:<\/b><\/p>\n

\u2013 To work closely with other government agencies, especially the Spices Board, to enhance the growth of the turmeric sector.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2013 Increasing awareness and consumption of turmeric, both domestically and internationally, by highlighting its health benefits.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2013 Exploring new markets worldwide to boost turmeric exports.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2013 Supporting research and development for innovative turmeric products.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2013 Focusing on the skill development of turmeric growers to add more value to their produce.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2013 Promoting quality and food safety standards.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2013 Ensuring the well-being and prosperity of turmeric growers by enhancing their income through value addition.<\/span><\/p>\n

Composition: <\/b>The Board shall have a Chairperson to be appointed by the Central Government.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2013 It will have members from the Ministry of AYUSH, Departments of Pharmaceuticals, Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Commerce & Industry of the Union Government, senior State Government representatives from three states (on rotation basis), select national\/state institutions involved in research, representatives of turmeric farmers and exporters.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2013 The board will also have a Secretary to be appointed by the Department of Commerce.<\/span><\/p>\n

What is the status of the Turmeric Industry of India?<\/b><\/h2>\n

India is the largest producer, consumer and exporter of turmeric in the world.More than 30 varieties of Turmeric are grown in India and it is grown in over 20 states in the country.<\/span><\/p>\n

The largest producing states of Turmeric are Maharashtra, Telangana, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.<\/span><\/p>\n

India has more than 62% share of world trade in turmeric.The leading export markets for Indian Turmeric are Bangladesh, UAE, USA and Malaysia.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
