What is the News?<\/b><\/h2>\n

INS Sagardhwani has started on a two-month long Sagar Maitri (SM) Mission-4 from Southern Naval Command (SNC), Kochi.<\/span><\/p>\n

What is the Sagar Maitri Mission?<\/b><\/h2>\n

Initiative of: <\/b>DRDO (Defense Research and Development Organization)\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Vision: <\/b>To support the <\/span>objective of the Prime Minister\u2019s policy declaration \u2018Safety and Growth for All in the Region (SAGAR)\u2019.<\/span><\/p>\n

Aim:<\/b> To <\/span>promote closer cooperation among Indian Ocean Rim (IOR) countries<\/span> in the areas socio-economic and scientific research especially in ocean research.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2013 The mission focuses on establishing long-term scientific partnerships with eight IOR countries namely: Oman, the Maldives, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, and Myanmar.<\/span><\/p>\n

Under this mission,<\/b> DRDO has initiated a scientific component named \u2018<\/span>MAITRI (Marine and Allied Interdisciplinary Training and Research Initiative)\u2019<\/b>.It focuses on establishing long-term collaboration with IOR countries in the field of \u2018Ocean Research and Development\u2019.<\/span><\/p>\n

Missions under Sagar Maitri: <\/b>Previous missions under Sagar Maitri visited countries like Myanmar, Malaysia, and Singapore.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2013 The current mission includes scientific deployment of <\/span>INS Sagardhwani in the Northern Arabian Sea and initiating collaborative research programmes with the University in Oman.<\/span><\/p>\n

What is INS Sagardhwani?<\/b><\/h2>\n

INS Sagardhwani is an oceanographic research vessel.<\/span><\/p>\n
