What is the News?<\/b><\/h2>\n

Chief of Defence Staff, has initiated two studies on major military platforms used by the three Services in India.<\/span><\/p>\n

The studies focus on unmanned aerial vehicles(UAVs) and armoured helicopters.<\/span><\/p>\n

The goal of these studies is to optimize the number of platforms needed, allocate resources effectively and avoid duplication in military acquisitions.<\/span><\/p>\n

What are the key findings of the studies?<\/b><\/h2>\n

Study on UAVs: <\/b>There is a requirement of 31 MQ-9B high-altitude long-endurance (HALE) UAVs and 155 medium-altitude long-endurance (MALE) UAVs.<\/span><\/p>\n

The procurement of the <\/span>MQ-9B deal i<\/span><\/a>s in progress.But the allocation of the 155 MALE UAVs among the three Services is yet to be determined.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2013 <\/span>Impact on Existing Fleet:<\/b> The three Services currently operate <\/span>Israeli Heron MALE UAVs.<\/b>The study outcome may lead to a major upgrade in UAVs.<\/span><\/p>\n

Helicopters: <\/b>Indian <\/span>Army and the Air Force are inducting the initial batch of 15 <\/span>Light Combat Helicopters (LCH).<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n

\u2013 The Cabinet Committee on Security has also approved the procurement of 39 AH-64 Apache attack helicopters from the U.S.<\/span><\/p>\n

AH-64 Apache is the world\u2019s most advanced multi-role combat helicopter.<\/span><\/p>\n
