News<\/span><\/b>:\u202fThis article discusses the recent Bombay High Court decision to lift the ban on Pakistani artists performing in India and its impacts on the Indo-Pakistan relations.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What were the events leading to the ban on Pakistani artists?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

1) <\/span>26\/11 Mumbai attacks in 2008<\/span><\/b> disrupted Indo-Pakistan cultural exchanges.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

2) In <\/span>2015,\u202fShiv Sena<\/span><\/b>\u202fprotested Ghulam Ali\u2019s concert in\u202fMumbai\u202fand led to its cancellation.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

3) After <\/span>2016\u2019s Uri attack<\/span><\/b>, there was a blanket ban on Pakistani artistes working in the Indian film industry. <\/span>Pulwama attacks in 2019<\/span><\/b> reinforced it.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What were the observations of the Bombay High Court in this matter?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The<\/span> Bombay High Court quashed a plea to ban<\/span><\/b> Indian companies, citizens and associations from working with Pakistani artistes \u2013 including actors, singers, musicians, lyricists, and technicians \u2013 in India.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The court also observed that art, music, sports, culture, and dance can truly bring about peace, tranquility, unity and harmony in the nation and between nations.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Art has the capacity to evoke a sense of community, solidarity and self-awareness, and get through people\u2019s hearts. The recent camaraderie between the Indian and Pakistani cricket teams \u2013 both men\u2019s and women\u2019s \u2013 has proven it.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What are the rules regarding entry of Pakistani artists in India?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Officially, as per the<\/span> India-Pakistan Visa agreement 2012<\/span><\/b>, \u201c<\/span>Reputed Pakistani artistes, including actors, musicians etc., who desire to visit India for giving commercial performances in India on remuneration basis may be granted <\/span>visitor visa<\/span><\/b> for a period not exceeding one year subject to the condition that each stay in India shall not exceed three months and with a special endorsement \u2018Commercial performance permitted\u2019.\u201d <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

These cross-border exchanges were put to an end by the September 2016 Uri attack leading to resolutions by the <\/span>Indian Motion Pictures Producers Association and the Federation of Western India Cine Employees<\/span><\/b>, preventing Pakistani artists from working in the Indian film industry.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In 2019, the Pulwama strikes brought forth a resolution by the <\/span>All-Indian Cine Workers Association<\/span><\/b>, upholding the 2016 ban.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What should be done?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Both countries must show the ability to <\/span>rise above differences<\/span><\/b> to find ways to collaborate.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
