Why in the News?<\/b><\/h2>\n

The International Solar Alliance (ISA) will for the first time compile and release a \u2018Global solar stocktake report\u2019.<\/span><\/p>\n

What is the Global solar Stocktake Report?<\/b><\/h2>\n

To be released by: <\/b>\u00a0International Solar Alliance(ISA)<\/span><\/p>\n

Inspired by:<\/b>\u2018<\/span>Global Stocktake\u2019<\/span><\/a> of the United Nations Conference of Parties<\/span><\/p>\n

Aim:<\/b> To take stock of the progress made by countries in the solar energy sector.<\/span><\/p>\n

Focus of the report: <\/b>In 2020, there was about $300 billion invested in solar, and in 2022, it was around $380 billion. But most of the manufacturing is in China.The stocktake will explore ways to diversify this manufacturing.<\/span><\/p>\n

What is a Global Solar Facility?<\/b><\/h2>\n

To be Launched by: <\/b>International Solar Alliance(ISA)<\/span><\/p>\n

Aim:<\/b> To help reduce the remaining constraints related to contracts and financing for solar energy projects.<\/span><\/p>\n

Focus area:<\/b> To expand <\/span>solar installations in Africa and then expand it to West Asia, Latin America, and the Caribbean.<\/span><\/p>\n

Funds:<\/b> It will have three funds: <\/span>1) <\/b>payment guarantee fund <\/span>2) I<\/b>nsurance fund to mitigate project risks and <\/span>3) <\/b>Investment fund for technical assistance.<\/span><\/p>\n

How much gigawatts of solar photovoltaic panels have been installed globally?<\/b><\/h2>\n

As of 2022, global solar photovoltaic installations have reached 1,133 gigawatts (GW) with 191 GW added in 2022.<\/span><\/p>\n

China accounts for about a quarter of this total solar photovoltaic installations followed by the United States.<\/span><\/p>\n

India is also among the top five countries globally with 62 GW of installations.<\/span><\/p>\n
