What is the News?<\/b><\/h2>\n

The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change is organizing a Country-Led Initiative (CLI) event as part of the United Nations Forum on Forests (UNFF) at the Forest Research Institute (FRI), Uttarakhand.<\/span><\/p>\n

What is the United<\/b> Nations Strategic Plan for Forests 2017-2030 (UNSPF)?<\/b><\/h2>\n

Adopted by: <\/b>UN General Assembly in 2017<\/span><\/p>\n

Purpose:<\/b> It is a <\/span>global framework to achieve the sustainable management of all types of forests, including trees outside forests, and to combat deforestation and forest degradation.<\/span><\/p>\n

Target:<\/b> To increase forest area by 3% worldwide by 2030.<\/span><\/p>\n

Goals: <\/b>The plan <\/span>contains a set of six Global Forest Goals and 26 associated targets to be reached by 2030.<\/span><\/p>\n

All these are voluntary in nature and universally applicable.<\/span><\/p>\n

Six Global Forest Goals:<\/b><\/p>\n

Goal 1: <\/b>Reverse the loss of forest cover worldwide.This is by adopting sustainable forest management, including protection, restoration, afforestation and reforestation.<\/span><\/p>\n

Goal 2: <\/b>Enhance forest-based economic, social and environmental benefits.This includes improving the livelihoods of forest-dependent people.<\/span><\/p>\n

Goal 3: <\/b>Increase significantly the area of protected forests worldwide and other areas of sustainably managed forests.<\/span><\/p>\n

Goal 4<\/b>: Mobilize new and additional financial resources from all sources.This is for the implementation of sustainable forest management and strengthening scientific and technical cooperation and partnerships.<\/span><\/p>\n

Goal 5: <\/b>Promote governance frameworks to implement sustainable forest management.<\/span><\/p>\n

Goal 6:<\/b> Enhance cooperation, coordination, coherence and synergies on forest-related issues at all levels<\/span><\/p>\n
