A committee visited the Anamalai Tiger Reserve to check the progress of the Forest Department’s first Tiger rewilding project.<\/span><\/p>\n

What is Tiger Rewilding?<\/b><\/h2>\n

Rewilding involves the reintroduction of a captive tiger cub into the wild when it becomes clear that the tiger cub is capable of surviving in the jungle independently.<\/span><\/p>\n

Forest Type<\/b><\/td>\nIt supports diverse forest types: <\/span>Wet evergreen forests, semi evergreen forests, moist deciduous, dry deciduous, dry thorn and shola forests<\/span>.<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Flora<\/b><\/td>\nAround 2500 species are found<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Fauna<\/b><\/td>\nTiger, Asiatic elephant, Nilgiri Tahr, Lion Tailed Macaque, Great Indian Hornbill among others.
\n<\/span>It is also home to 15 of 16 species of birds endemic to the Western Ghats.<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Tribes<\/b><\/td>\nThe reserve is home to six tribes: Kadars, Malasars, Pulaiyars, Mudugars and Eravallan.<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n
