What is the process of Selection of Host Country\/City for Olympics?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

In the 2014 IOC session, roadmap for the future of the Olympic Movement,\u00a0Olympic Agenda 2020, was laid out.\u00a0 It dealt with a new process for host city selection, and it was called the \u2018New Norm\u2019. It is based on 3 Pillars – Flexibility, Sustainability and Cost Effectiveness.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Why does hosting an Olympics hold such great importance? <\/strong><\/h2>\n

1) Pinnacle of sports: <\/strong>It showcases not only the nation to the world, but also soft power<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

2)\u00a0Political statement: <\/strong>India is a geopolitical power, and its standing will go up if it hosts the Games.<\/p>\n

3) Showcasing development: <\/strong>Hosting the Olympics would also underscore India\u2019s importance as a sporting nation and showcase its development.<\/p>\n

4) Promotion of Investment and Tourism-\u00a0<\/strong>India\u2019s bid for hosting the Olympics can catalyse investment and tourism in the country.<\/p>\n

What are the necessary conditions for making an Olympics successful?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

1) Strong National Olympic Committee (NOC):<\/strong> The Games are given to the NOC, which is India\u2019s Indian Olympic Association (IOA). It has to be governed efficiently.<\/p>\n

2) Strong legacy: <\/strong>Including people\u2019s participation, the social structure, and building of infrastructure.<\/p>\n

3) Coordination and cohesion: <\/strong>Knowing how to work with one another well would be important. \u00a0All elements such as culture, hospitality, infrastructure, government, and sports bodies have to work in coordination.<\/p>\n

What does India need to do to host a successful Olympics?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

1) Games Village: <\/strong>You need to have a top-class village for the Games.<\/p>\n

2) Specialists: <\/strong>Including marketing specialists, engineers, scientists, etc.<\/p>\n

3) Sound ports governance: <\/strong>Indian sport is governed poorly. Most federations are not functioning properly.<\/p>\n

4) Temporary movable structures: <\/strong>Temporary structures, instead of big stadia, can be built, and after the Games, they can be used by the community.<\/p>\n

5) Shortlist cities and hire feasibility consultants: <\/strong>To report on cities that can host the Games best.<\/p>\n
