Why in the News?<\/b><\/h2>\n

Prime Minister has announced that Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY) will be extended for another five years i.e till December,2028.<\/span><\/p>\n

What is Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY)?<\/b><\/h2>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Purpose<\/b><\/td>\nUnder the scheme, 5 kg of food grain per person per month is provided free of cost.
\n<\/span>This assistance is in addition to the subsidized ration provided under the<\/span> National Food Security Act (NFSA).<\/span><\/a><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Beneficiaries<\/b><\/td>\nAll the beneficiaries covered under the National Food Security Act (NFSA) [Antodaya Anna Yojana & Priority Households] including those covered under Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

Integration of PMGKAY and NFSA<\/b><\/td>\n(1) In January 2023, the government approved the integration of PM-GKAY benefits with the provisions of the NFSA Act.
\n<\/span>(2) This integration will streamline the delivery of free food grains.
\n<\/span>(3) It also ensures that families falling under the Antyodaya Anna Yojana(AAY) and priority households (PHH) categories receive free food grains according to their entitlement under NFSA<\/span>.<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n
