The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA)\u2019s Cell Broadcast Alert System<\/strong> failed to alert the tremors hit Delhi and surrounding areas last week.<\/p>\n

What is it?<\/strong><\/td>\nIt is a state-of-the-art technology that allows government to send critical and time-sensitive messages for disaster management<\/strong> to all mobile devices within a designated geographical area.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Developed by<\/strong><\/td>\nCentre for Development of Telematics<\/strong>(C-DOT) under Department of Telecommunication.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Applications<\/strong><\/td>\nTo deliver emergency alerts, such as severe weather warnings
\n(Tsunami, Flash Flood, Earthquake, etc), public safety messages, evacuation notices and other critical information.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

What is the operational status of India’s Cell Broadcast Alert System?<\/h2>\n

Few months back Department of Telecommunications in collaboration with National Disaster Management Authority conducted sample testing of this system .Each test alert labelled as a “SAMPLE TESTING MESSAGE<\/strong>“.<\/p>\n
