Why in the News?<\/h2>\n

Parliament had recently passed the <\/span>Indian Institute of Management (Amendment), Bill 2023.<\/span><\/p>\n

What is Indian Institute of Management (Amendment), Bill 2023?<\/h2>\n

Aim: <\/b>To amend the Indian Institutes of Management Act, 2017.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Specifications<\/b><\/td>\nIIM Act,2017<\/b><\/td>\nIIM Bill,2023<\/b><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Visitor<\/b><\/td>\n\u2013\u00a0<\/b><\/td>\nPresident of India is the Visitor of every Institute covered by the Act<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Appointment of IIM Directors<\/b><\/td>\nAppointed by the Board of Governors, based on the recommendations of a Search-cum-Selection Committee.\u00a0<\/span><\/td>\nBoard to obtain the prior approval of the Visitor before appointing an Institute Director.<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Appointment of the Chairperson of the Board of Governors<\/b><\/td>\nAppointed by the Board<\/span><\/td>\nThe Chairperson of the Board will be nominated by the Visitor.<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Dissolution of the Board<\/b><\/td>\n\u2013\u00a0<\/span><\/td>\nThe central government may prescribe the conditions and procedure for dissolving or suspending an Institute\u2019s Board.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Inquiries against IIMs<\/b><\/td>\nBoard can initiate an inquiry against an Institute if it has not been functioning in accordance with the Act.
\n<\/span>A retired High Court judge conducts such inquiries.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/td>\n		It confers the power of inquiry upon the Visitor. The Visitor may appoint persons to review the work of any Institute and hold inquiries into its affairs.\u00a0<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Co-ordination Forum<\/b><\/td>\nThe Act provides for a Coordination Forum for all the Institutes.
\n<\/span>These forums are established to facilitate coordination among all institutes in order to attain common policy objectives.
\n<\/span>The Chairperson of the Forum is selected by a Search-cum-Selection Committee, constituted by the Forum<\/span><\/td>\n		The bill provides that the Chairperson of the forum will be nominated by the Visitor.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n
