Why in the News?<\/b><\/h2>\n

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has released a draft document titled \u201cCurriculum and Credit Framework for Postgraduate Programmes\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

What are the key provisions of the UGC Draft Curriculum on Postgraduate Programmes?<\/b><\/h2>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
Specifications\u00a0<\/b><\/td>\nDetails<\/b><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Programme Types<\/b><\/td>\nUGC plans to introduce three postgraduate programme options:
\n<\/span>1)Two-year program with the second year dedicated to research (for graduates of three-year undergraduate programs).
\n<\/span>2)One-year program (for graduates of four-year undergraduate courses).
\n<\/span>3)Integrated five-year Bachelor\u2019s\/Master\u2019s programme.<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Exit Options<\/b><\/td>\nStudents in the two-year PG program will have a single exit opportunity after the first year, receiving a Postgraduate Diploma upon exit.<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Online Learning<\/b><\/td>\nUGC proposes an entirely online postgraduate program to enable participation alongside current responsibilities. This facilitates earning a postgraduate degree while working.<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Flexibility in choosing programmes<\/b><\/td>\nIrrespective of the major or minor disciplines chosen by a student in a UG programme, a student is eligible for admission in any discipline of Master\u2019s programmes if the student qualifies the National level or University level entrance examination in the discipline of the Master\u2019s programme.<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Two Programmes simultaneously<\/b><\/td>\nStudents are allowed the flexibility to simultaneously pursue two academic programs provided there is no overlap of class timings.<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Aligned with the credit system<\/b><\/td>\nThe postgraduate framework will be in sync with the <\/span>National Credit Framework (NCrF) <\/span><\/a>for the \u201ccreditisation\u201d of all learning and assignment, accumulation, storage, transfer and redemption of credits.<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n
