Why in the News?<\/b><\/h2>\n

The Ministry of Ayush and the World Health Organization (WHO) have signed Traditional and Complementary Medicine ‘Project Collaboration Agreement’.<\/span><\/p>\n

This marks the third collaboration between the Ministry of Ayush and the WHO (the last two collaborations being in 2016 and 2017).<\/span><\/p>\n

What is the purpose of the ‘Project Collaboration Agreement’ signed between WHO and the Ministry of Ayush?<\/b><\/h2>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
Specifications<\/b><\/td>\nDetails<\/b><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Objective<\/b><\/td>\nTo mainstream Traditional and Complementary Medicine into India’s National Health System and also serve the global health objectives<\/span><\/p>\n

This objective will be achieved through the <\/span>Traditional Medicine Global Strategy 2025-34<\/b> to be prepared jointly by the WHO and the Ministry of Ayush.<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

Major Goals of the agreement<\/b><\/td>\n1) <\/span>Strengthening of training and practice in the field of the Traditional Medicine System, specifically ‘Siddha.’<\/span><\/p>\n

2) Formulation of guidelines for the listing of Traditional and Complementary Medicines and safety protocols.<\/span><\/p>\n

3) Develop an International Herbal Pharmacopoeia focusing on herbs found in South-East Asia.<\/span><\/p>\n

4) Conservation and management of biodiversity and medicinal plants.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

Significance<\/b><\/td>\n1) This will help give India a global identity in the field of healthcare services and promote medical tourism in India.<\/p>\n

2) It will also help in preserving India’s rich heritage by addressing bio-piracy issues.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n
