Why in the News?<\/b><\/h2>\n

An India-bound cargo ship named Galaxy Leader was hijacked in the Red Sea by Yemen\u2019s Houthi rebels.<\/span><\/p>\n

Who are Houthis?<\/b><\/h2>\n

1) The Houthis are a rebel group in Yemen<\/strong>. They have been fighting a civil war with the Yemen government for almost a decade.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

2) They are named after the Houthi tribe who follow Zaydi Shia beliefs.<\/span><\/p>\n

3) They are in power in northern Yemen<\/strong> including the official capital Sanaa. The official government now operates out of Aden.<\/span><\/p>\n

4) They are supported by Iran<\/strong>. On the other hand, the Yemen government is backed by Saudi Arabia and Western countries.<\/span><\/p>\n
