The World Health Organization (WHO) has launched a Commission on Social Connection.<\/span><\/p>\n

What is Social Isolation?<\/b><\/h2>\n

1) Social isolation is defined as a lack of social relationships and loneliness<\/strong> as well as the social pain of not feeling connected<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

2) According to a study, one in every four older persons is socially isolated and 5% to 15% of teenagers suffer loneliness.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

3) <\/span>Impact<\/b>: Social isolation can lead to poor educational achievements; young people who are lonely in high school are more likely to drop out of college.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2013 It can also have a negative economic impact; feeling alienated and unsupported at work can lead to lower job satisfaction and performance.<\/span><\/p>\n
