The 30th Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) 2023 summit<\/strong> was held in San Francisco, USA<\/strong>. The US hosted APEC after a gap of 12 years.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The summit concluded with the Golden Gate Declaration<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Members<\/b><\/td>\n21 members <\/strong>(Australia, Brunei, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Hong Kong (as part of China), the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, Singapore, Thailand, Chinese Taipei (Taiwan), China, Japan, South Korea, Russia, Canada, the United States, Mexico, Peru and Chile)<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Consensus based decisions<\/b><\/td>\nAll APEC members have an equal say and decision-making is reached by consensus. There are <\/span>no binding commitments or treaty obligations<\/b>.<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
India<\/b><\/td>\nIndia is not a member of the group<\/b> (India had expressed interest in joining APEC in 1991 but the group decided to stop accepting new members in 1997).
\n<\/span>However, India enjoys an observer status since 2011<\/strong>.<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Significance<\/b><\/td>\nAPEC members represent 62% of the world’s GDP<\/strong>, <\/span>40% of the world\u2019s population<\/strong> and 50% of global trade<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
