Why in the News?<\/b><\/h2>\n

The National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) has recommended to the authorities that the Nugu Wildlife Sanctuary be declared as the core critical tiger habitat of Bandipur Tiger Reserve.<\/span><\/p>\n

Significance<\/b><\/td>\nIt has been declared as an <\/strong><\/span>eco-sensitive zone<\/a><\/strong> by the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change.<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

What are <\/b>Critical Tiger habitats (CTHs)?<\/b><\/h2>\n

1) Critical Tiger habitats(CTHs) also known as core areas of tiger reserves are identified under the Wild Life Protection Act (WLPA),1972<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

2) These areas are required to be kept as inviolate for the purpose of tiger conservation without affecting the rights of the Scheduled Tribes or such other forest dwellers.<\/span><\/p>\n

3) The notification of CTH is done by the state government in consultation with the expert committee constituted for the purpose.<\/span><\/p>\n
