Designated by<\/b><\/td>\nInternational Dark Sky Association<\/strong>, U.S.-based non-profit designates a land as a Dark Sky Reserve<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Categories of Designation<\/b><\/td>\nFive categories: International Dark Sky parks, communities, reserves, sanctuaries and Urban Night Sky Places.<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Criteria<\/b><\/td>\nIDSA considers a piece of land suitable for dark sky place if:
\n<\/span>1) It is a publicly or privately owned, protected for scientific, natural, educational, cultural, heritage and\/or public enjoyment<\/strong>.
\n<\/span>2) It is accessible to the public<\/strong> partially or entirely during the year.
\n<\/span>3) <\/span>The core area of the land provides an exceptional dark sky resource<\/strong> relative to the communities and cities that surround it.<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

Situated near<\/b><\/td>\nIndian Astronomical Observatory<\/strong>, the second-highest optical telescope in the world, of Indian Institute of Astrophysics.<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Purpose<\/b><\/td>\nTo <\/span>promote astronomy tourism in a sustainable and environment-friendly manner.<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
To be developed by<\/b><\/td>\nLadakh administration will work with Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) and the Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA), Bengaluru.<\/strong><\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
