Why in the News?<\/h2>\n

Since its launch, <\/span>Sanchar Saathi portal has received impressive response from those who lost their mobile devices. According to the portal, almost 11 lakh mobiles were blocked after citizens reported loss\/theft. Of these, half the mobiles were traced back and handed over to the owners.<\/span><\/p>\n

Services provided by the portal<\/b><\/td>\nThe portal allows citizens to:
\n<\/span>1) Know the mobile connections issued in their name
\n<\/span>2) Get disconnected to the connections not required by them
\n<\/span>3) Block\/trace lost mobile phones
\n<\/span>4) Check the genuineness of devices while buying a new\/old mobile phone.\u00a0<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Modules under the portal<\/b><\/td>\nCEIR: <\/b>It facilitates tracing and blocking of lost\/stolen mobile devices.
\n<\/span>If anyone tries to use the blocked mobile phone, its traceability is generated. Once a mobile phone is found it may be unblocked on the portal for its normal use.<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
TAFCOP<\/b>: It facilitates a mobile subscriber to check the number of mobile connections taken in his\/her name.
\n<\/span>The user can also report the mobile connection(s) which are either not required or not taken by the subscriber.<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n
