Purpose<\/b><\/td>\nPeacekeepers protect civilians, actively prevent conflict, reduce violence, strengthen security and empower national authorities to assume these responsibilities<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Authorized by<\/b><\/td>\nEvery peacekeeping mission is authorized by the <\/span>UN Security Council.<\/b><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Principles<\/b><\/td>\nThey are guided by three basic principles:
\n<\/span>1)<\/span>C<\/b>onsent of the Parties:<\/b> Peacekeeping operations require the consent of the main parties involved in the conflict.
\n<\/span>2)<\/span>Impartiality:<\/b> Peacekeepers should maintain impartiality in their dealings with the parties to the conflict.
\n<\/span>3)<\/span>Non-use of Force<\/b> except in self-defence and defence of the mandate<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Peacekeeping forces<\/b><\/td>\nUN Member states contribute their manpower for Peacekeeping forces on a <\/span>voluntary basis<\/b>.<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Funding sources<\/b><\/td>\nThe financial resources of UN Peacekeeping operations are the <\/span>collective responsibility of UN Member States.
\n<\/b>Every Member State is legally obligated to pay their respective share for peacekeeping.<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

What are India\u2019s contributions to United Nations(UN) Peacekeeping?<\/h2>\n

<\/b>1) <\/span>India is one of the largest contributors of troops<\/strong> to UN Peacekeeping operations. It has contributed approximately 2.75 lakh troops to peacekeeping missions so far.<\/span><\/p>\n

2) <\/span>The Indian Army has established the<\/span> Centre for United Nations Peacekeeping (CUNPK)<\/b> in New Delhi. This center provides specialized training for troops in peacekeeping operations.<\/span><\/p>\n

3) In 2007, India became the first country to deploy an all-women contingent<\/strong> to a U.N. <\/span>Peacekeeping mission.<\/span><\/p>\n

4) In 2021, India in collaboration with the UN launched <\/span>UNITE AWARE platform<\/b><\/a>. <\/b>It is a technology platform that utilizes modern surveillance technology for real-time threat assessments to UN peacekeepers.<\/span><\/p>\n
